Sportfishing Defence Alliance.
Dear Member of Parliament.
I am writing on behalf of the Sportfishing Defence Alliance here in British Columbia. Our membership, over 30,000, have some very serious concerns over the proposed Bill C 45, a new fisheries Act.
We have tried without any positive results, to get the government to sit down and work on some amendments that could make this legislation workable. All we get is the brush off. They will only talk to us and work on any amendments after the Bill goes to Committee. We have discovered that, that is too late.
We ask you to please make yourselves familiar with our brief and concerns and please support the current Hoisting Motion that is on the Floor dealing with this Bill. If the government is sincere in their much publicized offers to work on amendments, then why will they not do it before the Bill is passed? The passage of the Hoisting Motion will give adequate time to meet with all concerned on the legislation and develop a practical, workable piece of legislation in it's place. The key being that it should not give the government the power to sell off or privatize the public resource.
Our thanks for your time.
